Sunday 15th August 2021.
Newark Castle Concert.
In many ways this was a fitting venue for the band’s first post lockdown concert. It is always a well-attended, popular venue and (so far, anyway) the weather has always been good. And so, it proved in 2021. An audience of at least 300 was recorded by an official from Newark council and the weather held until we were on the way home. The socially distanced audience enjoyed our usual varied programme of marches, show tunes and popular classics and also Radio Newark’s DJ; they even joined in with Eddie Pearson’s regular debate about who is the most popular James Bond.
We were lucky enough to be helped out by some talented deps including Katie, our drummer who has left us for University but agreed to help us out for this gig, and also Joe Simpson, who, on the eve for moving on to University, stepped up and played first trumpet. We shall miss them both and thank you for your time with us.
And as for the band’s reaction, it’s best summed up by Richard Mollart, our second clarinet – “a super way to get back to performing.”
